Category List for Desktop Version : Feature Request

Hello Store.link Team,

I’ve noticed that the mobile version of Store.link includes a convenient category list, which makes navigation much easier. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement a similar category list on the desktop version as well?

Having consistent navigation across both platforms would enhance the user experience and make it easier to browse through products or content.

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback.

We have indeed optimized the category layout for mobile devices, where a vertical list works best. For desktop sites, the navigation is typically spread out horizontally, which suits that platform better. Each device requires its own tailored navigation approach.

With that in mind, we’ll be making some minor adjustments to refine the category list display on the desktop view for a cleaner experience.

Aslam

Hi Aslam,

Thank you for the update and for continuing to optimize the experience across devices.

One of our customers actually brought up an interesting suggestion, since we have quite a few categories, they mentioned it would be much easier to manage them if there was a drag-and-drop feature for selecting or organizing categories, rather than having to scroll through the entire list each time.

Just wanted to pass this along as feedback, it might be worth considering for future enhancements.

Best regards,

Hi Aslam,

I wanted to ask, would there be any way to restore previous settings from the Store.link dashboard?

We recently had an intern who was attempting to restructure some of the category lists and implement a script for searchable subcategories. Unfortunately, during the process, all the product category images, descriptions, meta titles, and other details were removed.

We attempted to restore a previous version, but it seems like the version history feature only applies to Google Sheets and not the dashboard itself.

Is there any way to recover the previous configuration or data for the product categories?

Appreciate any help you can provide.

Best regards,

Hi Fatafat team,

On the matter of categories, I understand that you have too many categories and having to scroll a lot for discovery is not the ideal customer experience.

We are working on a Menu builder that will be added in the navigation. This will allow you to list all your categories like a list (with subcategory like navigation) inside the navbar itself. This should make the site more friendly to frequent customers who want to goto a particular category quickly.

About settings restoration, we don’t save a state. I am sorry to say that we will not be able to restore it for you.

As a word of caution, I would advise your team to run tests on a copy of your website rather than working on the original.

Regards,
Aslam

Hi Aslam,

Thank you for the update and for taking our feedback into consideration.

Regarding the settings issue, we’ve identified the root cause. It appears that our team selected the “Sync from Google Sheet” option under Settings > Category > Manage Your Product Categories. Once this option was enabled, all the details under the “Edit Category” section were automatically reset by the system. This included Category Image, Meta Title, Meta Description, and Meta Image, which were all removed without warning.

Fortunately, we had a backup of all the details and were able to restore them manually. However, this behavior could be problematic for other users who might not have a backup readily available.

We hope this can be reviewed or at least accompanied by a warning prompt in future updates to prevent accidental data loss.

Appreciate your continued support.

Best regards,

I tried the same steps to reproduce the issue.

But Sync from Google sheets for categories didnot overwrite the data for us.

We will keep an eye out and see if someone else reports the same issue.

Thanks for trying the same steps. If the sync didn’t overwrite the data on your side, we’ll keep an eye out to see if others report the same issue. Meanwhile, we’ll also examine what steps were taken by our employee that triggered the issue and try to find the root cause.

We have a new update in Store.link. You can create a custom menu in the navbar. This might be helpful to your customers to navigate faster.

Categories in Google sheet remains the same. You can create a nested menu in Store.link inside Design > Header.

Here you have the option to add a Menu section which can consist of submenu with links. These links can point to your category links.

You can grab the category link from your store and provide the URL to open in same window. For example:

This menu structure should help with navigation. Hope it helps.

Hi Aslam,

Thank you for the update, this is really helpful and will definitely improve navigation for our customers.

At the same time, it might get a bit cluttered, especially since we have quite a few categories, and having all of them reflected in the navigation bar could make it look a bit unorganised.

We have a small suggestion: could you consider adding an option to show or hide specific categories from the navigation menu? This would help us keep the menu cleaner and more user-friendly, while still maintaining all necessary categories on the backend.

Just to clarify, I’m referring to the Store.link Dashboard > Settings > Categories section

It would be helpful if we could have an option there to show or hide each category from the navigation bar.

Also, as per previous updates, we understand that we can assign multiple categories to the same product using <,> in the category column. So, from that side, managing products under various categories won’t be an issue.

However, we’ve encountered a concern: when searching for a specific category name in the search bar (e.g., “Offers”), the results do not reflect products under that category. For example, even though we have a category named “Offers,” searching for “offer” returns:

Showing search results for: Beverages
No results found.
Try removing some filters or search again.

Unless the exact category name is mentioned in the product title or description, nothing seems to show up in the search. Could you please check if category names are being indexed in the search functionality?

This is what our team has understood so far while implementing the recent changes; we may be mistaken, so please feel free to correct us if needed.

Thanks again!

Ok. Let me address your questions one by one.

The navigation bar or header is the top part of the site containg logo, links you add, search icon and cart icon.

The custom menu section (the one I described) is something you create your own. It does not automatically list all your categories.

You have to manually create custom menu sections to classify your category list. Here is an example:

1. Dairy & Fresh Produce

  • Fruits & Vegetables
  • Dairy - Bread - Eggs
  • Seafoods & Meat
  • Frozen Food

2. Grains & Staples

  • Rice & Atta
  • Dals & Millets
  • Oils & Ghee
  • Masala & Spices
  • Sauces & More
  • Daily Essentials (e.g. salt, sugar, flour, pulses, etc.)

3. Snacks & Beverages

  • Snacks & More
  • Beverages
  • Instant - Ready to eat
  • Sweet Tooth (desserts, chocolates, Indian sweets, cakes, etc.)
  • Offers (promotions & combo packs)

4. Lifestyle & Household

  • Rituals (pooja items, incense, cultural essentials)
  • Care (personal care, hygiene)
  • Bazaar (home & kitchen non-food items, miscellaneous)

This reduces your 17 categories into 4 menu sections

This actually controls the default category list. It is not part of the navigation banner. Here the idea is simple. List all the categories you have.

We don’t have the show or hide option here. Normally customers want to list all the categories they have. I hope you understand.

I do have a suggestion for you:

Now, you must have seen the new custom sections in Design section.

If your turn off “All Products” (which includes the default category list), you can then build your site using custom sections.

You will be using the Cateogry list to create custom categories you choose. And you will be using the Product section to decide which products to show. This would be the better approach for you, if you want to customise your site.

That is true. Let’s see what we can do in this regard. Will get back
